this is what I called sharing selective info... how about that massive RM200 million debt and just RM11 million cash on hand. how to handle that bank borrowings ? This problem is the most crucial for GC.. yet bb choose not to talk about it.

Correct correct !
Also cannot explain massive increase in turnover
Whereas does not translate in increase in profit margin
Veri suspicious Financial statement loh........!
Quite GC similiar to Transmile Story loh...!

I have cashed out 40% of this stock due to uncertainty over the cocoa price since the Ivory Coast problem is now clearly settled and the country will be exporting its cocoa again.

Raider,

Please show me where I have promoted GC the last 2 weeks.

I have in fact posted in another thread that I have sold 40% of GC due to the possibility of cocoa price falling after the resolution of the Ivory Coast civil war sometimes last week.

This thread has been dormant since 27.2.2011.  I revived this thread yesterday just to reexamine some of the issues and valuations affecting this stock.
http://www.investlah.com/forum/index.php/topic,13642.msg370379.html#msg370379

It was actually you and a few others who were harping at my inclusion of GC in my portfolio for the last few months.

When I first posted on GC in investlah, it was in Dec. 2010.  Those who have bought then would have gained a lot.

My investing is a very solitary journey.  I based my investing on my own homework.

The selling of 40% also means I am still invested in this counter, though the money at risk is now mostly house money.

Managing your portfolio is quite another matter.

Some maybe happy to ride the good time with Guan Chong, speculating that it will deliver better results in the future.

Others may not be able to tolerate high risks (risk intolerant) and may prefer to lock in some of their profits (I call this buying insurance) and allowing the other remaining shares to ride the roller coaster unpredictable business future.  :P

FY10 turnover surged 81.8% while earning multiplied remarkably by more than 7 folds.  With the new cocoa processing plant coming on line to beef up production capabilities, GC is well positioned for growth and is optimistic of its performance in FY11.

Mar-11, GC commissioned its cocoa grinding facility in Batam, Indonesia, making it one of the largest cocoa processors in Asia.  It has invested about RM 70m in the first phase of construction & installation of the new facility, which boasts an initial annual grinding capacity of 60k metric tonne (mt).  Subsequent two phases will result in the facility having an annual capacity of 120k met, together with the existing Pasir Gudang facility, GC's final annual capacity will be pumped up to 200k mt.

Every time a stock goes up or down, you should ask yourselg:

Is this price movement based on changing fundamental or changing sentiment?

Sometimes the answer is not so obvious.

In such a situation, here is a good guiding principle.

It is better to be approximately right than to be exactly wrong.

Buy a strong fundamental counter with great prospect.Let say unlucky it drops after u bought.
U hold for three years and it finally rebound and bring u 10% profit.
At last still better than FD!

Buy and hold is a good strategy for selected stocks, and it can be extremely rewarding.  I should know. :)

GUANCHG - Guan Chong hits 4-day low at RM2.85
Stock Name: GUANCHG
Company Name: GUAN CHONG BHD
Research House: HWANGDBS

KUALA LUMPUR: GUAN CHONG BHD [] shares fell to a four-day low of RM2.85 in late afternoon on Wednesday, May 4 as investors took profit after the recent strong run-up its share price in recent weeks.

At 4.04pm, it was down 15 sen to RM2.85 with 366,800 shares done. The warrants fell eight sen to RM1.31.

Hwang DBS Vickers Research had recently initiated coverage with Buy call and RM3.60 target price.

'Our fair value is pegged to 10x target PE, using fully diluted FY12F EPS. This is a steep discount to DBS Vickers' 15 times FY11/12 PE accorded to Singapore-listed Petra Food, its nearest peer,' it said.

HDBSVR said Guan Chong was an under-researched counter.

'We like it because its market cap (RM941 millio) is poised to expand along with strong profit growth. Potential risks to earnings are a global economic collapse (leading to customers deferring deliveries as demand falls) and disruptions to cocoa bean supply,' it said.

To recap, Guan Chong manufactures and sells cocoa ingredients: cocoa butter (54% of FY10 revenue), cocoa powder/cake (43%) and cocoa liquor (3%). Exports were 92% of sales last year as it counts global chocolate manufacturers like MARS, Hershey's and Lotte as customers.

Since 1990, its capacity has increased from 6,000 tonnes per annum to'' 140,000 tonnes now to rank among the top 10 cocoa processors in the world.

'It is set to grow bigger when another 60,000 tonnes per annum at its new plant in Indonesia ' which has the advantage of buying zero-tariff local beans ' is fully completed by 2Q12,' it said.

But Osama died, USD up, how convinient

USD then up, oil drops to celebrate death, but food counters up as USD speculated to go up temporarily only

Guan Chong 1Q net profit jumps 52.5% to RM30.08m
Written by Surin Murugiah of theedgemalaysia.com
Monday, 16 May 2011 18:58

KUALA LUMPUR: GUAN CHONG BHD [] net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2011 jumped 52.5% to RM30.08 million from RM19.73 million a year earlier, due mainly to higher revenue, net gains arising from foreign exchange due to appreciation of the ringgit, and net fair value gains on foreign exchange derivatives.

Revenue for the quarter rose 7.8% to RM290 million from RM268.95 million in 2010. Earnings per share was 9.44 sen, while net assets per share was 62.7 sen.

Guan Chong proposed a final tax-exempt single-tier dividend of 3 sen per share in respect of FY2010, amounting to a payout of about RM9.6 million.

Reviewing its performance, Guan Chong said on Monday, May 16 that it was optimistic of its performance in the current financial year given that the new cocoa processing plant located in Batam, Indonesia had commenced its production in first quarter of 2011.

We believe Guan Chong is well-positioned for growth as many initiatives to improve our competitiveness and profitability have been systematically carried out by the management team, it said.

The company said it expects its performance to be satisfactory for the current financial year.

Guan Chong on track to hit earnings growth
Published: 2011/05/18

Guan Chong Bhd, one of the largest cocoa processors in the region, is on track to meet the full-year robust earnings growth of 19 per cent, says HwangDBS Vickers Research Sdn Bhd.

In a research note today, HwangDBS said it expected a rise in effective tax rate with the full year estimate of 19.3 per cent amid rising contribution from Guan Chong's new plant in Batam, Indonesia.

Guan Chong's new grinding facility in Batam, completed in February with an annual capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes, annually, will contribute 40 per cent of quarterly sales volume from the second quarter, HwangDBS said.

As of the first quarter, Guan Chong's Batam plant was already churning an operating profit of RM1.5 million despite barely being in operation for one month.

"We understand that Guan Chong's current running capacity of 140,000 metric tonnes (Pasir Gudang and Batam) is fully taken up, thus providing earnings visibility for financial year 2011," HwangDBS said.

Guan Chong reported first quarter 2011 net profit of RM30.1 million, an increase of 52.5 per cent, year-on-year, on the back of RM290 million revenue driven by higher sales volume, better margins and lower effective tax rate.

Bottomline was also lifted by lower effective tax rate of 10.8 per cent as Guan Chong utilised most of the outstanding export tax incentives upfront in the first quarter the year.

HwangDBS said it still liked Guan Chong as an undervalued global manufacturer of cocoa ingredients as capacity boost and secured orders were expected to drive earnings momentum ahead.   -- Bernama
