This one correct.

Very complicated.
I keep my investing simple and safe.  (Keep It Simple & Safe)

Like Nestle:

Not useful to use Book Value for the valuation.

Use either earning multiple or DCF

Price = signature PE x projected EPS

or

PV = Div/(r-g) or EPS/(r-g)

The reason why investment in Nestle at Rm 49.70...........is complicated bcos it is overvalue mah.............with PE 28X.....NTA Rm 2.60.
The only solace is dividend yield of 3% p.a. close to fixed deposits rate loh........!
By comparison u can much undervalue stock like ptras loh..........Why would some value investor why value investor wants to invest in nestle at Rm 49.70 leh ? When u get much better value like Ptaras woh........!

      Lets compare
                                                                 Ptaras              Nestle
Share price                                                 2.41                   49.70
PE                                                              6X                     28x
NTA                                                            2.75                  2.60
Dividend yield                                               7.8% p.a.           3.00% p.a.
Growth                                                        50%                  15%

Certainly Ptras is superior in all aspect except that Nestle is in consumer staple................................. .still too much to overpay loh..........!

Lets say the investor makes a valuation on Nestle as you have suggested.

But there is a catch.  This investor finances the investment 80% cash, 20% Debt, say overdraft facility.

How then would the valuation differ?  Smiley

Nestle Still koyak loh....!
80%Cash opportunity cost 3% p.a.
20%Debt                        6% p.a,
Effective cost of fund 3.8% but nestle give 3% p.a. still negative wealth destruction loh.....!

But not Ptras loh
80% cash 3% p.a.
20% debt 6% p.a.
Effective cost 3.8% p.a. but Ptaras give dividend 7.8% p.a. that mean positive wealth creation 4% p.a. loh.......!

So much use your leverage smartly loh...........!

Stockraider, demonstrated something that we should all consider.

In making investments, one should also compute the IRR before proceeding.  IRR is important because you as an investor, have to partake your current wealth (either by debt, cash etc) against the valuation of a security.  IRR changes when your debt/equity (cash) ratios are different.  IRR is also impacted by the duration.

Will Pintaras deliver 50% growth year on year for many years?
Will Nestle deliver 15% growth year on year for many years?
There lies the obvious answer.  Smiley

Consider your stock investment as buying an equity bond.

Capital = Share price bought at.
Interest =  Dividend received yearly.

Unlike a bond that pays fixed coupon /dividend and is redeemed on maturity at face value, the dividends received from a carefully selected good quality stock continue to grow over time and its share price appreciates correspondingly.

Nestle is a good stocks.....overtime dividend growth....but share price appreciate veri much faster....to a point....the yield become low loh.....! Correspondingly become overvalue loh.....!

Ptras is a stock emerging good stock.....overtime dividend growth.....but share price appreciate at a much slower pace....resulting in dividend yield veri high loh.....therefore veri undervalue loh....!
