Maxis vs Celcom vs Digi
« on: October 26, 2006, 04:59:49 PM »
Which do you think is the best in terms of service?
Which of them would you invest in?

All the while I am a Maxis user that is just to lazy to switch...

Noticed that Maxis just came out with Wireless Broadband... Anybody switching to it?

But most importantly, how bout the stocks?

For the phone line.
Prepaid - Digi
Fixed Line - Celcom

as for shares. I think in the telecommunication sector Telekom is the best bet. They are currently changing their backend system to SAP and would go live in 1st of January. If everything goes well, the share price would jump IMO.
Plus, did you guys notice the service improvements by tm?

Maxis is going down... They just depend on customers who have used the phone for long time and too much trouble to switch numbers...

Digi is doing things right. From this view I say invest in Digi.

TM price won't go up until they can announce profits.

Have you guys heard of MNP? Mobile number Portability?
Means that you can switch telco without changing your number....
Then, we will know which telco people prefers...

One thing that may be happening soon is de-regulation of fixed call rates... Meaning TM can alter their call rates to be more competitive cause now, the fixed line is losing penetration rate

Hey check it out... It's cool....

Somebody was telling me this is set up by Digi but of course, nobody can confirm this.... Also, I heard there was a http://www.thetruthaboutprepaid.com.my that was set up also by Celcom but it was closed down now as people posted some bad remarks there...

Is this true???

Hhhhmmm.. Interesting, because I was just surfing that website and it was Celcom's website.. The difference must have been the .my.

The 1st one came out with this was the Celcom, where they were promoting the Celcom rates.. You could know whether it is Celcom or Digi by looking at the number of family&friends in that particular operator... The .My was Celcom because only they have 8family&frens, and now it is Digi, they have 6 family& frens, and the left out was Maxis, 5 family&friends...

I believe the previous Celcom site was closed not because of bad remark posted by people on their site (in fact there was no way they can post on the website)... it must have been because the information given on the site was misleading.. They were not showing the true rate offered by Maxis or Digi.. So, I'm sure it must have been Maxis or Digi might have sent a lawyer notice or something to them...

This time around since Digi just recently reduced their price slighty, so they dare to show off their benefit.. But, beware because last week when I went to their website, they actually had a small print on the bottom of the page sating that this offer is not forever(or somting like that)..

Whoever started this are really smart for their marketing strategy...

Wow... Really good insight...

This has been made into a case in my MBA class :P

Anyways, discussions in my class about this went and we learnt that this approach is not new.. It has been done in some other countries b4

I wonder what will happen if Proton and Perodua were to do this :P

Some other countries, they are more open. They even dare to mention their competitor's name. In fact recently Giant,Tesco and Carrefour had almost similar fight. They start to display their price comparison (at their doorstep) between 3 of them.
Giant was more daring, they actually wrote which competitor offer which price.
Tesco only showed the 1st letter of their competitor and x'ed the rest. Eg: Gxxxx
Carrefour only said Competitor A and B.

This is fantastic! I just love it when competitors fight it out. :)

I confirm that www.thetruthaboutprepaid.com is owned by Digi and www.thetruthaboutprepaid.com.my is owned by Celcom.

Digi one came first on Oct 5 and then Celcom registered their domain a few days later on Oct 31.

Digi must be kicking themselves for allowing this to happen... hehehe...  ;D

Why is it good for Digi?

They spent so much on advertising their website but they wanted to save RM100 and not register the .com.my.

Now Celcom go and register it and they untung cos:

1. they get free traffic, and
2. they can spend comparatively less on advertising cos Digi already got people curious on what it's all about.

I have no idea what kind of marketing they are trying to achieve... they keep putting up and taking down the site.  :-\

It goes down again at 11.59 pm tonight.

hi,

i'm a maxis customer but a tm stockholder. irony isn't it? hei it's like telling someone that u r having this company but u r using your competitor's products. I wonder how many people out there that buy stocks of which their products they never use.

as for me, i think it's time for me to switch to digi due to its excellence service...hmmn, and for digi stock, i still need to sell my TM before buying digi.

so anyone of u r kind enough to buy TM from me? I can give u at a discount. how about buying it from me at rm10.50?

thanks ;D

I am a Maxis user, simply because I have been using the number for so long and am lazy to go through the hassle of changing number.

Agreed that Digi's CEO is a genius. Digi has been rolling out promotions which are very creative and enticing. Even though Digi does not have 3G license yet, its share value is hitting historic high, reflecting the confidence of the share holders on the company.

Ironically like one of the previous post, I am a TM share holder. Bought the share earlier as I perceive (and hope!) that the price was low and there are chances of it recovering to RM10+!

Has anyone thought abt this...

With WiMAX and Skype Phone combo, one day sooner than you think all the Telcos will go out of business.

The thing is... anyone can offer WiMAX and Skype Phone combo. Green Packet and YTL-e are bidding for licences.

Telcos have lost their exclusitivity. It used to cost billions in licences and equipment to set up a Telco. Now competitors can offer similar services for much less in entry costs.

Hmm... Saw the news about YTL-e and G.Packet too... Interestingly, no telco name came out. Reason being WiMax requires transmitting towers. If given to telco, they can just put WiMax devices at their mobile phone towers. I wonder...

But also read that Maxis are involved in the testing of WiMax. Hmm.. will they break the code and give a license to Maxis?

As for Digi, guess 1 prob is that they own 61% of Digi. I think to obtain the license they have to lower to 49% per law (I guess). But who got the $ to buy up the 12% stake?? Will cost lots of $
