SS,

I went there for a wedding dinner some years ago,
this hotel is always full, so i guess it makes a lot of money,
Robert Kuok owns it rite? I never take much notice coz it a
very well-behaved stock (not much movement)
Is he planning to sell the hotel ??

GA,

i hav absolute no idea on whether RK is sellin his hotel or not, but my guess is.....NO!!!! with the upgrades, i think they r moving into a new phase. however it is not the hotel business that i m most interested in.(i personally wouldnt pick it to stay in).

if we really think about it..................Q. where does value comes from in buying a property?

we know structure deteriorates, furniture n fittings depreciates, renovations n designs dont always add value. the onli reason a property is of great value over time is location n land value that appreciates over time. hav a look at their assets n u might c why it is a great buy at a certain price over a long period of time. (its a bit tricky here when u dont own the property outright)

 Thumbs Up

will push prices down n if u r not exectly buying for the cashflow things might get exciting over a period of time. think bout it, this RK guy is pretty smart Wink

sometimes too smart in the case of Maybulk, but thats another story all together.(RK lost some big points there Sad)

lets just c what happens in the near future, things might start to unfold as the chapter is closing.

ok........ Thumbs Up Wink
will wait for your feedback!!!!

by the way, Maybulk isnt just ok, its a great business, cyclical.....yes. but it has great cashflow n it use to hav tons of cash. quite sad that RK decided to use the cash in a very selfish way. thats why we see it being hit so badly. but with hes business wit, hopefully it will go forward well, n hope investors forgive him for what he has done. it is such a great business that even in downturn(downcycle), it surprisingly(well actually expected of him) to turn good profits. for those that understand this business well n hav done their homework in valuation, they'd do ok.......patience also plays a great role after valuation is done.

I did take a look at Shangri-la annuals ths morning .....it does have good traits of a super company ...low valuations for its hotels and properties ...nta rm1.80 ...but if revalued, definately more than rm2+ ......growing profits and growing dividends ....RK has 52% so a big strong shareholder behind .......i think they are declaring an interim divd ths mth oso rite .........

its always hard to predict the bottom. plus at the very bottom the volume is often very small. so for those that need substantial amout they hav to start accumulating all the way down n hope they dont run out of money doin so.

so what u think of Shang? what hav u been addin to your port? hav a great week!!!!

Lately it has been the play for penny goreng stock. So, I have been sideline quite some while. Guess the eurozone crisis is still not far behind us. So, must be extra caution.
