KUALA LUMPUR: World's largest derivatives exchange, CME Group would be taking a 25% stake in BURSA MALAYSIA BHD []'s derivatives business, chief executive officer Datuk Yusli Mohamed Yusoff said on Sept 17.

The acquisition was a follow-up to an agreement inked on Aug 11, where CME Group would acquire a minor equity stake in the derivatives business and operations of Bursa Malaysia under a proposed collaboration to develop a US dollar crude palm oil futures contract (FCPO).

CME Group chief executive officer Craig Donohue had then said CME would acquire an equity stake in the derivatives business and operations of Bursa Malaysia and Bursa would in turn have equity stake in CME Group.

The minority share swap would be part of the strategic partnership to develop a US dollar FCPO using Malaysia's ringgit contracts for trading at CME Globex -- which is CME Group's electronic trading platform.

Reason as follow
======================

On behalf of Bursa, CIMB Investment Bank Berhad wishes to announce that the Company has on 17 September 2009 entered into a strategic partnership with CME Group

(i)   Proposed FCPO Licensing - Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia Derivatives”) will license to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (“CME”) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of CME Group) the right to use the settlement prices of its RM-denominated crude palm oil (“CPO”) futures contract (“FCPO”).  This will enable CME Group to develop USD-denominated cash-settled CPO futures contract (“UCPO”) and related options for listing on one of CME Group’s US designated exchanges.  These, in turn, will be traded on CME Globex trading platform, CME Group’s electronic trading platform;

(ii)   Proposed CME Globex Services Arrangement – CME will provide the services of CME Globex trading platform to Bursa Malaysia Derivatives, which includes the listing of all existing and future Bursa Malaysia Derivatives’ products on CME Globex trading platform; and

(iii)   Proposed Equity Participation – CME Group will invest in the derivatives businesses of Bursa and its subsidiaries (“Bursa Group”), through the acquisition by CME Group Strategic Investments LLC (“CMEGSI”) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of CME Group) of a 25% equity interest in Bursa Malaysia Derivatives.  The Proposed Equity Participation aims to strengthen the partnership with CME Group beyond vendor-based relationships

Looks like it'll be advantageous for derivatives market such as futures, not so much on stocks... more kuai low will now play our CPO future... more revenue stream for Bursa...

If Junjun was truly born in 1940, then my suggestion to Junjun is...

Retire in grace... Go fishing, play chess, tai chi, listen to water dripping sound while reflecting the good moments of your younger years...
Don't gamble off your money in stock market...

Let the youngsters (like me, since I was born in 1988 according to my name) to go fight in the market...   Grin

Junjun, retire in grace !! Stop gambling off your retirement fund in warrant !!  Grin Grin

I don't know about the rest but I've been punting -cl, the other two are quite dormant...

The Proposed Equity Participation will result in a gain of approximately RM43 million to Bursa based on the audited financial statements as at 31 December 2008.  At the Bursa Group level, the Proposed Equity Participation is expected to result in a gain of approximately RM44 million based on the audited consolidated financial statements as at 31 December 2008.  As such, the consolidated EPS of Bursa is expected to increase by approximately 8 sen as a result of the Proposed Equity Participation

However, the above is shown solely for illustration purposes only based on the average closing price of CME Group Shares for the 10 trading days prior to 26 November 2008 (being the cut-off date for pricing purposes as agreed between the parties) of USD193.96 per share.  The actual effect, which will be computed upon completion of the Proposed Equity Participation, may differ from the above.

CME now USD291.57

Bursa actually overvalue at Rm 7.83.

NTA Rm 1.40
EPS Rm 0.25.

Even we give it a rich valuation of PE 25.
It should trade at around Rm 6.25

Bursa being a service provider company with no tangible products, does NTA play a significant role in its valuation?
