No Worry Bro... Scomi Marine losses due to impairment loss of goodwill . When circumstances indicate that the goodwill may have become impaired ( Disposal of CHoff) the remaining goodwill will be estimated. If the resulting estimate is less than the book value of the goodwill, a “goodwill impairment loss” is recorded.
Hi Ivan, this Important Loss of Goodwill should be a one-off thing right?

1) Share market is not interesting without compounding return. 2) When you lost 50%, you need 100% to come back. 3) Buy or sell only if a company fundamental has changed or going to change. 4) Use dollar cost averaging for bluechips company only. 5) Never neglect technical analysis.

Hi Ivan, this Important Loss of Goodwill should be a one-off thing right?
Hi Bro, impairment of good will is one -off things. Next quarter result shld be okay. No need to panic selling. No point to cut loss since we dont find any good exit point. Majority of Scomi Marine share are held by institution investor. I think their position are too large to exit. For what i had monitored this 2 days . Shares are sold by individual investor. I lost about 20% in scomimarine and 20% in scomi-la. I dint do anything neither buy or sell. I think in long run it should be good buy, as this one off things provide a good oppurtunity for all the big boys who are insterested to participate in. In other words, provide a opp to buy in at cheaper price n goreng up. In term of fundamental of FA, this 2 stocks are average. But in term of trading play, rotation of theme play, it does provide a room for it. In short, No matter how good or how bad a stock is, most importantly is the participatant. Since there are a lot of instituition investor, i will hold and keep to principal , sell untill i see profit in 2 counters and swap to another later. Hopefully can be done in 3 mths time.

I had only 9 years exp in klse. Intuition and experiences told me i shld hold and look for longer term. For the moment now, i dont plan to cut lost or swap . or average down. Dont want to put all the egg in one basket, since this 2 is just an averege trading stock only. In this market condition, there are actually some bargain buy/undervalue 2nd liners. Where we shld really take a look and put our money in. Js my 2 cents, bet at your own risk.....

Thanks for your advices... It looks like these 3 days Scomimr stop dropping liao... Ivan, what are the good undervalue 2nd linersyou mean? PM me ya Bro numblikeu & TC1943, I dont normally recommend stock to others. This was because one will never know how the stocks will perform. Diffent people will have diffrent character/trading strategy. For me, i had 3 fund, one is trading stocks fund, another is fundamentals stocks fund, the third , recover/growth stocks fund. Scomi Marine dropped under trading fund. This is a good trading stocks as it attract interest from instituition/retail investor. Fundamentally wise, it was average. But the price are in the range of low. So i bought it hope to have 10-20% earnings. I hope i can participate in the market by doing some trading , so i will not lost track. For Fundamentals fund, i bought undervalue stocks, ideally is 1.00 dollar&below, cash rich, debt free or little debt, eps ok and pays dividen. These kind of stocks does not attract investor, as it has little volume, and one of its characteristic is ,we have to have patience and holding power ... maybe 6 mths to 1 years or even 2 years. This is my multi-bagger play. I had too little money,so i can only aimed for multi bagger in order to accumulate more capital. For growth/recovery fund , growth stocks,no target yet, market are some point of high. Recovery stocks, Glove stocks, overvalue already, Steel stocks middle recover so earning might not impressive, Chicken Stocks already high,Plantation maybe, Timber maybe. In short, i seldom put everything in 1 basket. I used to listen to rumours, without really study the nature of the stocks/business and put everyting in a basket. End up I pay costly price for it. For me now, capital preservation come first, follow by making from the undervalue stocks and occasionlly some pocket money from trading stock.

Just received an unverified news that the LRT extention project might drop this company in favour of bidders related to current leadership. Look at recent sharp fall. Anyway it's still a good buy at this price. But i am out, sorry.

Scomi counters op profit are still strong. Coming months, I expect them to still earn good numbers. company making headway into India. Prices are at its lowest since listing, debt levels are/will coming down.
I really don't know what's the panic. A buy at these prices.

There must be reasons for sharp fall. Let me refresh you. 1. Tun Dr. M open criticism on this company over the buses, LRT and suspected terrorist-linked issue. 2. Currently leadership no longer backbone to this company? 3. High possibility of being knock out from Klang Valley LRT Extension and Penang Monorial project. My intention is not to scare you away. But there are hundreds of undervalued share out there, why risk your life saving?

Scomi: India to call for monorail tenders soon Published: 2010/03/12
The Indian government has officially singled out monorail as a component for its urban transport solutions to ease congestion in its crowded cities. This will pave way for more monorail projects in the country's major cities, Scomi International Pte Ltd president Kanesan Vellupillai said.
Cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune would soon call for new tenders as a result of the government's recognition, he said.
They are either for new projects or extension of existing developments, Kanesan told Business Times yesterday.
This also indirectly means more Malaysian companies can participate in monorail developments there including civil works, he added. The recent visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to India had facilitated for more involvement of Malaysian companies there.
"Delhi, for example, is expecting to start a monorail service in three to four years. The Pune Municipal Corp has raised its capital expenditure by allocating an additional big amount extra for a monorail system in the city," Kanesan said.
Scomi, he said, had submitted tenders and pre-qualification bids for projects in several cities in cooperation with its Indian partners.
The company already secured India's first monorail project, a RM1.85 billion contract to build a 20km route in Mumbai, in November 2008.
Scomi and its partner Larsen & Toubro were given 30 months to complete the job.
Kanesan said it had completed the trial run of the project's first monorail car in late January this year.
In Bangalore, he said, the city's maiden monorail corridors are expected to take shape soon.
The Bangalore state government had approved the plan last year, with Scomi and its partner Geodesic techniques Pvt Ltd being the sole bidder so far following a pre-qualification process in January.

Investment Minister discusses cooperation with Malaysia's Scomi Group
Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, the Minister of Investment, discussed with the investment delegation of the Malaysian SCOMI Group headed by the CEO, Mr. Shah Hakim, on Friday 12/3/2010 means of cooperation in the areas of transport and logistics services, as well as laying down the foundation for an investment cooperation program to boost the company's investment volume and business in the Egyptian market.
The meeting reviewed investment opportunities in infrastructure and logistics associated with transportation, oil industries and the manufacturing of trains and buses.
Dr. Mohieldin stressed the importance of promoting and developing cooperation between Egypt and Malaysia. He said this was part of the technical and investment collaboration program started by the Egyptian government in order to benefit from the Malaysian techniques in economic development.
He said that both countries would benefit from these joint ventures in cooperation and coordination with the ministries concerned.
