The opinion on short term market direction is worth so little.

No one can predict this with any degree of high probability.

At best, this statement is always true.

The market maybe down tomorrow, it maybe up tomorrow or it may remain unchanged.   :)

iiinvestsmart, fully agreed with you short term market is random.  It is impossible to predict consistently to any high degree of probability.  :handshake: :handshake: :handshake:

But for long-term, with the right trading strategy, you can consistently make money in the market.  ;) ;) ;)

My opinion on Malaysia's General Market Direction is based on LONG-TERM LAH.   :D :D :D

Since short-term is RANDOM and cannot be predicted accurately, and long-term can be consistently 'predicted' accurately; don't you agreed it is easier to make money consistently by trading long-term than short-term?  ;)

The best trading strategy is "CUT YOUR LOSSES FAST AND HOLD ON TO YOUR PROFIT"... A long-term strategy.

When we trades, these are the possible outcomes:

1. Breakeven  :)
2. Small gain  :)
3. Small loss  :)
4. Medium gain  :P
5. Medium loss
6. Large gain  :P :P :P :P :P
7. Large loss.   :'( :'( :'(

The key strategy is to avoid items 5. & 7. That is, we must not get ourselves trap into Medium loss and Large loss positions. (10 - 30% is medium loss; 40 - 60% is large loss.) It is very difficult and we face a huge uphill task to recover our capital after suffering a Medium or a Large loss.

To make money consistently, we must have Medium gain and Large gain.  :P :P :P

Breakeven, Small loss and Small gain is part of the game.  We must accept these three possibilities willingly and get out when our trading strategy ask us to get out.  We must embrace small lose without any feeling of pain and regret.  :) :) :)

I repeat "CUT YOUR LOSSES FAST AND HOLD ONTO YOUR PROFIT".   :D :D :D

If you can device a trading strategy based on the above,  you will make money consistently... :D :D :D 8) 8) 8) :P :P :P

Hi King, IMHO, 1500 should not be your goal post.  ;) ;) ;)

Nobody can predict the market accurately......  Short-term market is random, Long-term market may be 'predictable'; but anything can happen in the market.

Just follow the Malaysian Crowd behaviour.  When they begin to get bullish, that is the time to buy.  The trick is to jump in at the beginning of an uptrend.   ;) ;) ;)

When is the early stage of the next uptrend?  Nobody can predict.  It could be 1700, 1600, 1500, 1200, 1000........  :wonder: :wonder: :wonder:

You must have a sound trading strategy based on "CUT YOUR LOSSES FAST AND HOLD ON TO YOUR PROFIT".  :P

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 2): CIMB Research has downgraded the Property sector to “Neutral” from “Overweight” and said while the property sector was one of the better performing sectors in 2014, that would be difficult to sustain in 2015 in view of the imminent implementation of the 6% goods and services tax (GST) starting Apr 1.

In a note Friday, the research house said 2015 was going to be another tough year for developers in terms of sales and investors should be selective in their exposure to property stocks.

My long-term strategy is not govern by minimum number of years.   ;) ;) ;)

It depends on the crowd behaviour. I believe the crowd is stronger than all of us.  They may be stupid, but there are stronger than us.  Never argue with the crowd.  Just follow them.  If there are bullish...BUY AND HOLD.  If they are bearish...SHORT AND STAY SHORT.  :D :D :D

If the crowd behaviour is bullish, I will be riding the market until the bullishness is over.  This could be 3 months to 10 years or more depending on that counter crowd.  ;) ;) ;)

If upon buying the counter, the crowd bullishness suddenly disappear, I will even get out in less than a month.  "Cut loss fast"  ;) ;) ;)

My long-term strategy also depends on the time horizon of the chart I am referring to.   ;) ;) ;)
If I am referring to the daily charts, my long-term strategy time horizon could refer to 3 to 4 years.
If I am referring to the 5 minutes charts, my long-term strategy time horizon could refer to a few months to one year.   ;) ;) ;)

By the way, based on my trading strategy, Dutch Lady sell signal was triggered around July 2014 at around RM45 plus.  It is still in the downtrend mode.  RM46 appear to be a VERY STRONG RESISTANT LEVEL.  Based on my trading strategy, I would take profit at RM45 and use that money to look for other counters that are at the beginning of an bullish uptrend.  :P :P :P

mind sharing how do you quantify 'crow behavior'? the number of up vs down counters?

If you are trading individual stock, then you look at the crowd behaviour of that individual stock.

If you are trading an index stock, then you look at the crowd behaviour of that index stock.

If you are trading an ETF, than you look at the crowd behaviour of that ETF.   ;) ;) ;)

There are many ways to define the crowd behaviour.  You need to define your parameters based on your personal temperament, preference, risk tolerance, etc.... ;) ;) ;)

1.  WORLD BANK

2.  MARC

3.  MR  KANGKONG IN HIS NEW YR SPEECH

IF OIL PLUNGE FURTHER,

Allow me to summarize your strategy.

When prices going up, buy; when prices dropping, sell.   :)

Buffett says this is stupid.

You wish to buy your groceries when they are on sale.   :D

Good luck to you.   :handshake: :cash:

 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
There are many ways to skin a cat.  ;) ;) ;)

Buffett strategy is good.  My strategy is also good.  ;) ;) ;)

IMHO - Buy at the beginning of an uptrend.  :P :P :P  Not at the end of the uptrend.  ;) ;) ;)
Sell at the beginning of a downtrend.  :P :P :P  Not at the bottom of the downtrend.  ;) ;) ;)
Stay side-line and do nothing when the market or stock is flat (trading range).   :) :) :)

Buy and hold forever is a very profitable strategy if the company still growing.  But when it reach number 1, i.e. mature; the price cannot move further. You may only get good dividends. (Your method is good when the company has big potential for further growth, but when it reach maturity, the capital gain will be limited.)

Your Dutch Lady... Has the company reach maturity? Is the company only catering for Malaysia market only or selling to the whole world? If it reach maturity, the capital gain will be limited.  In that case, times to cash out and move to other potential growth companies.  ;) ;) ;)

Everyone waits for KL petrol price to drop before pumping their tank full. Because they could the value of filing the tank cheap. Price is what we paid, value is what we get.
The underlying principles of sound investment should not alter from decade to decade, but the application of these principles must be adapted to significant changes in the financial mechanisms and climate.

Mani players still buy at the end of uptrend bcos they want to squeeze the LAST few drops of water$$$ out from rock.

IMHO these players are not trying to squeeze the LAST few drops of water$$$ out from the rock.  ;) ;) ;)

These players are using their emotion (HEART) to trade instead of evaluating the risk. They are afraid of missing another 'opportunity'. They thought any correction is good time to buy; before another opportunity is missed again.  They expect to made handsome profit when they enter the market.  :P :wonder:  :P

Trying to trade basing on EMOTION is the sure way to loss.  That is why emotion such as greed, fear, hope, happy, anger, excitement, dreaming, no eye see, praying, etc...... should not be in your vocabulary when we trade.  ;) ;) ;)

We need a TRADING STRATEGY using technical & fundamental analysis, risk management and most important an understanding of psychology.

Then, there are those whose focus is on quality and value. AKA FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS.

IMHO - Won't you agreed combining Technical Analysis and Fundamental Analysis to come out with a Trading Strategy would be better?  ;) ;) ;)

You both are as if arguing which comes first chicken or egg?  :D

Both Buffett and Power Rangers way are correct. It depends if you are a big or small player. Small players can enter and exit a trade quickly due to the smaller quantity. Because of this advantage they (some very pro traders) can achieve return of more than 100% easily in a year.

On the other hand people like Buffett are big players. Their trades CAN MOVE THE STOCK. Hence they cannot buy on breakout and sell when it breaks support. In fact they have to do the opposites of what small players do. You don't see Buffett's fund making very big return nowadays because his fund size is too big. He has to wait for market to crash so he can enter else he will be pushing the stock prices up.

As the saying goes..... You can't have your cake and eat it too.
