Here’s the good news following a Saturday night dinner between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Buenos Aires: The U.S. said it won’t impose 25% tariffs on Chinese goods in January, as it had planned, and China agreed to buy more U.S. agricultural goods. It’s essentially a cease-fire, for now, in the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

The bad news is that this deal opened a 90-day window to negotiate a deal not just on trade but also on protecting intellectual property, ending the forced transfer of technology, and more. If those negotiations aren’t successful, then it’s tariff time.

No unlimited storage of waste for Lynas, says ministry

Author: savemalaysia    |    Publish date:   Tue, 4 Dec 2018, 06:42 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — Lynas will not be allowed to store an unlimited amount of waste at its rare earth storage facilities, the government said today as almost half a million metric tonnes of radioactive waste has already been collected.

A statement by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), in expressing the government’s concerns over the increasing amount of residue produced by the company, said the decision was due to the continued accumulation of waste without a viable solution to manage it at hand.

"The Ministry is concerned about the increasing amount of accumulated residue at its open landfill temporary site as it is exposed to the threat of natural disasters such as major flooding.

“The risks to the surrounding communities and environment will increase as the amount of accumulated residue grows,” read the statement.

There are two primary types of residue produced by Lynas at their Lynas Advance Material Plants (LAMPs) in Gebeng, Pahang: Water Leached Purification Residue (WLP) and Neutralisation Underflow Residue (NUF).

WLP is a naturally occurring radioactive material and management of such wastes is currently regulated by the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB).

NUF has been classified as a type of scheduled waste, is non-radioactive, and is regulated by the Department of Environment.

The statement detailed how 451,564 metric tonnes of WLP and 1.113 million metric tonnes of NUF are currently accumulated at the LAMPs in Pahang.

“The Ministry is concerned with the increasing risk arising from the continued accumulation of residue without a viable solution to manage its accumulation in the near-term.

“For this reason, the Ministry will not allow the unlimited accumulation of residue at LAMP,” read the statement.

The Ministry then outlined two preconditions for Lynas that would be required before renewing permits or licenses in the future.

“The accumulated WLP residue, which contains radioactive materials, must be removed from Malaysia; the existing temporary storage licence expires on September 2, 2019.

“For the non-radioactive NUF scheduled waste, LAMP shall submit an action plan on the disposal of its accumulated wastes before it will be considered for future applications,” read the statement.

property TREND..long term downtrend...BUILD-TO-TREND concept emerging

BtR (Build-to-Rent)

Author: UY    |    Publish date:   Tue, 4 Dec 2018, 04:52 PM

BtR (Build-to-Rent)

http://www.bnm.gov.my/index.php?ch=en_publication&pg=en_staffinsight&ac=50&bb=file

Against the background of reduced infrastructure spending by government, and massive looting by Najib and previous government, the victims are the 32millions Malaysians.

The market was directionless and in a consolidation mode last week. However, the FBM KLCI failed to climb above the resistance level of the consolidation phase and fell to its lowest level in nearly five months. The index was dragged down by Genting Malaysia Bhd and Genting Bhd on the theme park issue.

This indicated that the market sentiment was bearish despite generally bullish global market performances. The benchmark KLCI fell 0.9% in a week to 1,679.86 points last Friday. The market rebounded this week and closed at 1,694.99 points yesterday.

Trading volume increased significantly last week and this indicated a stronger selling pressure as the index fell lower especially last Friday. The average daily trading volume increased to 2.8 billion from 1.8 billion shares in the previous week and the average daily trading value fell to RM3.6 billion from RM1.5 billion.

Local retailers were the net buyers last week amid selling from both local and foreign institutions. This is not a mix that we commonly see. Net buy from local institutions was RM574.3 million while net sells from local and foreign institutions were RM264.3 million and RM310 million respectively.

For the KLCI, decliners beat gainers 16 to 13. Top gainers were IHH Healthcare Bhd (+11.9% in a week to RM5.37), Axiata Group Bhd (+6.5% in a week to RM3.63), and PPB Group Bhd (+3.3% to RM17.60). The top three decliners were Genting Malaysia Bhd (-20.3% to RM7.77), Genting Bhd (-8.9% to RM3.20), and Sime Darby Bhd (-7.3% to RM3.41).

Global markets rebounded and closed mostly higher. In Asia, the Hong Kong market led as the Hang Seng Index rose 3% in a week. The US market rebounded sharply last week from a four-month low in an anticipation towards year-end rally. European markets including the UK closed higher as well.

US dollar continued to strengthen against major currencies. The US Dollar Index rose to 97.2 points last Friday from 96.9 points the week before. The ringgit strengthened against the greenback at RM4.18 to a US dollar compared with RM4.19 in the previous week.

Crude oil (Brent Crude) continued to fall although at a slower pace. The price fell 0.9% in a week to US$58.68 (RM243.52) per barrel last Friday, a new one-year low. Gold (Comex) increased only 0.2% from the previous week at US$1,226 an ounce. Locally, crude palm oil (BMD) declined 0.3% to RM2,039 last Friday.

The immediate support level is at 1,679 points and resistance is at 1,720 points. The KLCI failed to climb above the resistance level and is currently testing the support level. This indicates a bearish sentiment.

Technically, the KLCI trend remained bearish below the short-term 30-day moving average and the long-term 200-day moving average. Furthermore, the index stays below the Ichimoku Cloud indicator. Furthermore, the Cloud has begun to expand and the correction phase should be over and the bearish trend may resume.

The Relative Strength Index and Momentum Oscillator failed to climb above their mid levels and this indicated that the market still faced resistance. These indicators are starting to decline and this indicates that the bearish momentum is gaining some traction. Furthermore, the moving average convergence divergence is almost falling below its trigger line.

The KLCI tested the support line (confirmation line) of the triangle chart pattern twice in the past two weeks. Like in my previous article, the clue to which direction the market is heading lies in these support and resistance levels.

A breakout above the resistance level (1,720 points) indicates that the market is ready for a technical rebound but a breakout below the support level (1,679 points) could mean continuation of the bearish trend. The technical indicators on the chart favour a breakout of the support line and if this happens, the index may fall to the triangle pattern’s target at 1,610 points.

The global macro picture continues to look uncertain for 2019, with August 2018 likely the peak month for global growth, as synchronization has been all but lost.

There is evidence that real estate markets are stalling in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the US, with new evidence suggesting the slowdown has infected Africa.

The housing market worlwide has been experiencing a year-long market topping process with a rise in non-performing loans (NPLs) and oversupply fears.

Take note those who attend seminar (pay 3988rgt) and gurus say buy ,buy 10 units using scientific method, apparently it is buying one unit and use it as collateral for 2rd unit, 3rd unit and so on.
But in a falling mkt, this scientific method kills.

HOW b-a-d is the corruption culture in Malaysia? PAS president HADI has a corruption/defamation $90m case pending in UK.

Dr M says concerned corrupt practices becoming the norm

Mahathir said when corrupt practices are accepted as being common, then there would be no sense of shame in participating in such practices. ― Picture by Yusof Mat Isa

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today expressed concern over corrupt practices that are becoming increasingly common among the people that they are willing to ignore the negative impact on society and the country.
He described the symptom as ‘memperasuahan’ — inculcating bad habits among members of society that it became part of the culture, and it had always been in existence in the world community.

“I don’t know whether the word ‘memperasuahan’ does exist in the Malay vocabulary, but whether this word exists or not, the act of inculcating corrupt practices often carried out in society.

“The society that accepts this culture will no longer feel shy or embarrassed in giving or accepting bribes, that are sometimes referred to as ‘tumbuk rusuk’  or ‘makan suap’ (habits associated with corrupt practices),” he said in his latest entry on his blog chedet.cc tonight.

He said the public generally considered corruption as a bad and horrible practice, but those who were corrupted would hide it as they realised that it was against both the law and religion.
However, he said, when corrupt practices were accepted by the community as a common thing that could be publicly disclosed, then there would be no sense of shame for doing so, either by the givers or the recipients.

During the reign of ‘cash is king’ or ‘money is king’, the practice of giving and accepting bribes became one of the values of life and culture, especially among the Malays, he said.

“They are willing to do anything if they are bribed with enough money or the gift of interest. Whether it is a good or bad thing, it is not part of the consideration.

“The fact that it is against the law, even considered as a sin in terms of religion, are not taken into account. The priority is the satisfying of one’s greed,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said even though people realised that bribery was bad and prohibited, the recipients would not take long to accept it.

“Whether it is good or bad, bribery feeds greed and believed to be profitable. The negative effects on society are trivialised.

“Certainly, a sense of national pride and the impact (of the habit) on society and the country are trivialised by those corrupt individuals,” he wrote. — Bernama

Hong Kong (CNN Business) — The arrest of a top Chinese tech executive at the request of the United States has sent shock waves through stock markets.

The main index in Hong Kong fell more than 2.5% and Tokyo stocks dropped nearly 2% on Thursday after Canada said Huawei's chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, had been arrested in Vancouver and is being sought for extradition by the US government.

Shanghai's market slid about 1.5%, while US stock futures were pointing down more than 1%.

The arrest of Meng, the daughter of Huawei's founder, sparked fears of a new escalation of tensions between the United States and China, which reached a truce in their trade war less than a week ago. Uncertainty about whether the two sides can reach a lasting deal has fueled volatile trading in global markets this week.

Tech stocks were among those bearing the brunt of the selling on Thursday.

Huawei isn't listed on a stock exchange. But ZTE (ZTCOF), a Chinese tech firm that was temporarily crippled by a US export ban earlier this year, slumped nearly 9%. Huawei suppliers AAC Technologies (AACAY) and Sunny Optical (SNPTF) both plunged around 6%.

Stephen Innes, head of Asia-Pacific trading at investment firm Oanda, linked the losses directly to Meng's arrest. The news has prompted investors to dump riskier assets, he wrote in a note to clients.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that US officials had briefed counterparts in countries including Germany, Japan and Italy on potential security risks from Huawei equipment. That report prompted a major sell-off in more than 100 Chinese stocks, according to Innes.

CAN you believeit ,  DELOITTE can be cheated so easily or DELLOITTEin cohort with jho Lo

this article was from one ~ writer

While I was going through the Billion Dollar Whxxx (story about how JL siphoned off billions from 1MXX to his own accounts), I came across something very interesting.

The following is a summary :

Deloxxxx was the auditor of 1MXX. To sign off the accounts, they demanded that 1MXX proved that they still own the USD2 billion cash by bringing them back to Malaysia.

Of course, if JL still has the USD2 billion cash, he could easily just transfered them back. Unfortunately, he has already spent most of the money and has only about USD300 mil left. So, JL came up with a simple trick.

He transferred his USD300 mil to 1MXX, then got 1MXX to transfer the money back to him. Then he transferred to 1MXX, and 1MXX transfered back to him again. They repeated the process a few times. The several rounds of transfers from JL's accounts to 1MXX was then presented to Deloxxxx as proof of money coming home.

Guess what ? Deloxxxx accepted them as evidence. They were satisfied and signed off the accounts.

This made me wonder whether that was the way Red Chips created their cash. For those uninitiated, Malaysian investors had long been perplexed by Red Chips listed on Bursa. Almost all of them are penny stocks, but they hold huge amount of cash. The cash is usually several times their market capitalisation. This leads many investors to feel that they are undervalued (backed by so much cash !!!) and are hence safe to invest in. But almost all these companies eventually got into troubles and some were delisted. Many investors suffered permanent losses.

Malaysian investors clearly smell something fishy, but nobody can explain what is happening. The cash seemed to be real !!! In one occasion, some investors visited a particular Red Chip in its home country and was shown the documentary evidence of their cash holding in the bank.

After reading the Billion Dollar Whxxx, I think we might have found the answer. The Red Chips' accounts are audited once in a year. During that few days when the auditors are around, they will borrow money and transferred them into their bank accounts (the lender can place restrictive covenants on the accounts such that money cannot be moved out without their consent).

When the auditors look at the bank accounts, the money is there !!! So, they happily sign off.

Easy, isn't it ?

Normally 10 years FD rates is higher than 1 year FD rates due to higher risk for holding 10 fd.
So if 1 year FD rates is higher than 10 years FD  rates, it signals short term risk is higher possible due to some uncertainty in  economy.

On Tuesday, short term bond yield  goes higher than long term bond yield.
The computer algo detected this change and quickily dump all the shares in the hedge fund portfolio, cauing 800 pts plunge in DOW.

When the two-year and the five-year yield curves inverted on Tuesday, some hedge funds' programs automatically sold the S&P 500, which tends to fall in times of economic weakness, and others automatically sold shares of the big banks, which suffer when long-term rates are lower, Cramer said

"Why? Because historically, this situation has produced negative results for the bank stocks and these hedge funds are trying to get out ahead of others who fear those negative results but just don't know they're going to fear them. It's a footrace," he explained. "This curve, as they call it, overrides whatever you hear about good employment or consumer balance sheets or robust lending. It's predictive."

Worse, the charts are signaling more pain ahead: based on Cramer's analysis, many hedge funds likely sold the S&P 500 when it dipped below its 200-day moving average because, in the past, that move tended to bring more downside.

"Here's the problem: there are now so many hedge funds using the same algorithm, same programs [that] there simply aren't enough investors willing to take the other side of the trade. If we all know that stocks go down on certain triggers, then who the heck would want to buy stocks?" Cramer said.

"That's how you get a day like today, where the market goes into free-fall," the "Mad Money" host continued. "When the percentages are against you and the algorithms are in charge, ... nobody wants to try to be a hero and bet against them."
