KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI shook off a three-day losing streak to climb 6.16 points to 1,690.27 in Thursday's morning session as the US Federal Reserve took a more dovish stance at its recent monetary policy meeting.

Trading volume on the local index was 1.23 billion shares valued at RM796.05mil. There were 386 advancers versus 286 decliners and 309 counters unchanged.

Global equities were seen trending higher following the US central bank's decision to maintain its interest rates while expecting an \"ample supply\" of bank reserves.

Among key indices, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.6% while China's blue chip CSI 300 gained 1%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed 1.2% and Japan's Nikkei added 1.3%.

In Southeast Asian markets, the Philippines PSE Index jumped 1.5% while Bangkok's SET Index and Jakarta's Composite Index rose 0.8% each. Singapore's Straits Times Index was up 0.4%.

Petronas Chemicals continued to lead movement on the KLCI, rising 17 sen to RM8.50, while IHH added eight sen to RM5.69 and Digi gained 10 sen to RM4.66.

Sapura Energy, the top active counter, slid to a new historical low in intra-day trade at 25.5 sen. At midday, the stock was down 0.5 sen to 26.5 sen.

Bumi Armada was also actively traded, ending the morning session unchanged at 20.5 sen.

Rounding up the top three most highly traded counters, JAG lost 0.5 sen to eight sen.

Crude oil showed signs of tightening supply in the US even as sanctions on Venezuela pushed up prices. US Crude rose 43 cents to US$54.66 a barrel while Brent crude gained 59 cents to US$64.24 a barrel.

The ringgit was 0.4% stronger over the greenback at 4.0883 as the latest Fed decision put selling pressure on the latter currency. The local currency also rose 0.4% against the pound sterling at 5.3675 and 0.2% against the Singapore dollar at 3.0365.

At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI was up 6.16 points to 1,690.29. The index had earlier risen to a high of 1,695.40.

Gainers led losers by 307 to 228, while 446 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 1.23 billion shares valued at RM796.05 million.

The gainers included British American Tobacco (M) Bhd, KESM Industries Bhd, Nestle (M) Bhd, PPB Group Bhd, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd and Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd.

The actives included Sapura Energy Bhd, Bumi Armada Bhd, JAG Bhd. Frontken Corp Bhd, Tiger Synergy Bhd, Daya Materials Bhd, Permaju Industries Bhd and Bina Puri Holdings Bhd.

The decliners included Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd, Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Berjaya Media Bhd, GHL Systems Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd and Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd.

Southeast Asian stocks rose on Thursday, in line with broader Asia, as the US Federal Reserve held interest rates steady while signalling its three-year drive to tighten monetary policy may be at an end, according to Reuters.

A dovish Fed helped MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rise 0.7% to its highest since Oct 4, the newswire said.

CIMB Retail Research said the FBM KLCI Index was sluggish ahead of the US-China trade talks, with the key index losing 6.3 points yesterday.

"Today, the local market may see a late pre-Chinese New Year rally, underpinned by the overnight jump in Wall Street.

"Do not miss the 'Ang Pow' money opportunity before the Chinese New Year Festival next week. Resistance: 1,700 & 1,725. Support: 1,680 & 1,666," the research firm said.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 31): Pestech International Bhd has secured two contracts from Tenaga Nasional Bhd for a total of RM280.89 million, one of which is to install a double circuit underground cable in Kuala Lumpur and the other, to establish a main intake substation (PMU) in Kedah.

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia has served a notice on Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd 's unit (MAHB) Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB), claiming almost RM480mil for losses incurred from operating at klia2.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the low-cost carrier estimate its losses totalling RM479.78mil the main part coming from loss of customers in the last four years, owing to disruptions and poor condition of the terminal.

In the notice to commence mediation served on MASSB, AirAsia and its long-haul sister airline AirAsia X Berhad said MASSB provided a “poor level of service” at the terminal, resulting in losses and damage to the two carriers.

These include cancellations and loss of revenue from multiple runway closures, apron defects, damage to two aircraft due to malfunctions in MASSB’s infrastructure and sensors, a fuel line rupture at klia2 Pier P, internet outages and loss of customers.

AirAsia and AirAsia X are jointly seeking mediation in accordance with Section 74 of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

Under this procedure, the dispute must first be resolved in good faith through mediation. Under the Act, if mediation fails, Mavcom will arbitrate the dispute.

Both AirAsia and AirAsia X said they hoped to settle the issue amicably and had refrained from filing a counterclaim in court to pursue mediation, as required by the Mavcom Act.

Nonetheless, they reserved their rights to exhaust all avenues to recover the losses they have incurred, including the option to seek redress in the courts of law.

London Biscuits has proposed another private placement exercise following an earlier one completed in end-2018, but this time round raising about 15% of its enlarged share capital which will involve the issuance of 45.4m new shares. Proceeds from the exercise will be used primarily to pare down its borrowings. While dilutive, we are not overly troubled given the strong growth anticipated in its potato chip (and other) segment, coupled with the interest expense savings which will help mitigate. We are monitoring the situation closely nonetheless as the Group continues to be weighed by relatively high borrowing levels which cannot be addressed over the longer term in this manner. Our Trading Buy call is retained, with target price of RM0.71 also unchanged at this juncture. We expect LBB to continue focusing on ramping up utilization of its production capacity, as well as accessing new sales channels in order to drive sales and improve margin levels.

THE SCAMs that plc use..
first they approach banks for 100m loan. bank say ok, pay us 8% interet per year
After enjoying  return of 8% a year from the plc, the bank discover that 100m fund dont know go    where, plc are not producing roe of 15 or 20% on the 100m fund.

however the banker say never mind. we go con the shareholders. we do right issue, the money comes in, pay me back the 100m.

So far SC and Bursa, the regulator ,dont know about this SCAM yet . So major Shareholders/CEOs of many plc will use this SCAM to fleece the uncle autie..

For the past 15 years, SC/Bursa are not aware where the hundreds or thousands  100m kind loans scams. Maybe SC/Bursa staff are fake degree holders like politicians.

(Feb 18): Political tension has emerged as a threat to the domestic economic drivers Thailand is relying on amid a global slowdown.

A push to disband a political party over a failed bid to make a princess its prime ministerial candidate lays bare deep splits ahead of a March general election, the first since a coup in 2014. The unfolding drama is a reminder of Thailand’s cycle of elections, unrest and military intervention since 2006.

Read More: Rush to Disband Princess-Backed Party Evokes Thai Bloodshed

"We don’t expect election-related chaos as we approach the election date," said Eugenia Victorino, head of Asia strategy at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB in Singapore. "However, the ability to form a stable government is vital in the continuity of the recovery in private investments."

Forecasters such as the World Bank expect rising private consumption and investment in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy to fill much of the gap from easing exports this year. The risk is that domestic instability could lead companies and consumers to delay spending.

Economists estimate growth recovered last quarter after a sharp slowdown. Gross domestic product probably expanded 3.6 percent in October to December from a year earlier, a Bloomberg survey shows ahead of a report due 9:30 a.m. Monday in Bangkok. Full-year 2018 growth is seen at 4.1 percent.

Faster Neighbors

While Thai growth has recovered since 2014 -- when unrest brought the economy to a near standstill and sparked the coup -- the pace still lags neighbors in Southeast Asia.

Domestic Drivers

As exports wane, consumer spending and private investment are relative bright spots that make some analysts optimistic. GDP is set to climb 4.5 percent in 2019 as the economy shrugs off "recent political noise," said Tim Leelahaphan, a Standard Chartered Bank economist in Bangkok.

FDI Falling

Foreign direct investment as a share of the economy has declined during a more than decade-long power struggle between exiled former leader Thaksin Shinawatra and the military and royalist elite. Thaksin or his allies have won every election since 2001, only to be unseated by the courts or the military.

Waning Price Pressures

Price pressures have waned in Thailand, partly because of a surge in the baht. Together with an uneven economic outlook, that’s adding to the case for leaving interest rates unchanged after December’s quarter-point increase.

"Baht outperformance and a pullback in global oil prices reinforce our expectations of a pause in policy rates this year," said Radhika Rao, an economist at DBS Bank Ltd. in Singapore.

Market opened gap up yesterday and hold firm thereafter despite failure to surge further. FKLI is expected to open slightly higher today but sustainability would be questioned especially if it still fails to breach above 1698 in the coming days.

Assuming a WACC of 8%, PGas will suffer a fall in the transportation segment’s annual revenue requirement by 5.6% in FY20F under RP1 and 17.9% in FY23F in RP2. Overall, this translates to a minimal PGas’ annual earnings reduction of 2% in FY20F while FY23F earnings will drop by a larger quantum of 7.5%.
The stock currently trades at an FY19F PE of 19x, 14% below its 3-year average of 22x. However, these valuations are unjustified given that PGas’ recurring income and margins will be declining progressively over a prolonged trajectory due to the new gas transportation framework. We will provide further updates pending an analyst briefing later today.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): The FBM KLCI lost 0.73% at the midday break today, tracking losses at regional markets.

At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI fell 12.63 points to 1,718.05.

Losers led gainers by 475 to 151, while 484 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 1.57 billion shares valued at RM1.03 billion.

The top losers included British American Tobacco (M) Bhd, Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd, Top Glove Corp Bhd, Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, PPB Group Bhd and Pharmaniaga Bhd.

The actives included Iskandar Waterfront City Bhd, Sapura Energy Bhd, AirAsia X Bhd, Dagang NeXchange Bhd, Tatt Giap Group Bhd and Ekovest Bhd.

The gainers included Allianz Malaysia Bhd, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Manulife Holdings Bhd, Guan Chong Bhd, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Bhd and Metrod Holdings Bhd.

Shares in Asia slipped on Friday as a deteriorating global economic outlook outweighed further signs of progress in trade talks between China and the United States, according to Reuters.

After inching higher in early trade, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell into the red as more markets opened across the region, dipping 0.1%, it said.

Affin Hwang Capital Research said the FBM KLCI Index fell slightly before clawing back losses in the second-half of yesterday's session, edging 4.5 points or 0.26% higher.

It said the index has been closing in the green for three consecutive days now as buyers remain in control.

"Currently, prices are just above the EMA200d (200-day exponential moving average). A strong push above the EMA200d would signify that bulls are back in control, hence investors can look for any buying opportunities.

"The index is now at the 1,725-1,745 resistance area. Note that prices may face potential selling in these zones," it said.

“阻力点接近26300至26500之间,支撑点则介于25500至25700之间。”

券商表示,美中贸易乐观情绪及美联储温和态度,让道指前景看涨(迄今涨11.9%),加上原产品价格复苏及国内大型项目可能恢复的消息,应该可让马股重测1738点水平。

“不过,目前正值2018年末季业绩季节,情绪仍保持谨慎,以及最近净外资流出可能限制进一步上涨潜能。支撑水平介于1700至1706点。”

(Feb 27): An unprecedented travel boom in Asia has spawned new budget carriers and millions of first-time fliers, but a shortage of pilots is threatening to choke that demand.

Bamboo Airways Co. in Vietnam was the latest low-cost carrier to start services this year and more are expected to join the race. In Southeast Asia alone, LCCs have about 1,400 aircraft on order, compared with fewer than 400 for full-service carriers, according to CAPA Centre for Aviation. With the supply of pilots lagging behind, the airlines will struggle to find skilled cockpit crew.

“There’s a real crunch coming,” Peter Harbison, executive chairman of Sydney-based CAPA said in Singapore. “For new airlines, it’s much, much harder and it’s going to be a real struggle.”

Global traffic is set to double in the next two decades with the biggest increase expected in the Asia-Pacific region, where almost 4 billion passenger journeys are expected, according to the International Air Transport Association. Boeing Co. forecasts the region needs 16,930 new planes and about 261,000 pilots through 2037. That means the current fleets and the number of pilots will need to double during that period, according to the planemaker.

The strain is already showing. IndiGo, Asia’s biggest budget carrier by market value, last month decided to scrap dozens of flights every day through March after many of its pilots exhausted their annual limit on flying hours. Taiwan’s China Airlines Ltd. averted a crisis this month by agreeing to improve working conditions at an annual cost of almost $4 million after the pilots union, citing fatigue among other complaints, went on a seven-day strike.

Even some outside Asia are running into problems: Emirates, the world’s biggest long-haul airline, said in April that a shortage of pilots forced it to cut flights.

To avoid a squeeze, some airlines have set up their own academies to build a pool of pilots they can tap into. Jeju Air Co., South Korea’s biggest budget carrier, AirAsia Group Bhd., Southeast Asia’s largest by fleet, IndiGo and Indonesia’s Lion Air are among the airlines that have set up training schools.

“If I think back to five to 10 years, we weren’t seeing any training academies set by airlines,” said Wendy Sowers, director of commercial marketing at Boeing. “The supply-demand dynamics are coming into play. You are seeing the system respond.”

Some airlines are also “quietly” cutting the minimum hours required for pilots to be qualified as captains as they struggle to fill positions quite quickly, said Steven Greenway, president of Swoop, an ultra-low-cost-carrier that’s part of WestJet Airlines Ltd. in Canada.

The problem of pilot shortage has been around for a while, but has become more serious in recent years, a Jeju Air spokesman said.

CAPA’s Harbison says Southeast Asia and India are likely to face the brunt of the shortfall, with the most impact felt by four carriers -- AirAsia, IndiGo, Lion Air and VietJet, the Vietnamese airline that has embarked on one of the biggest international expansions by a budget carrier in the region.

Benyamin Bin Ismail, chief executive officer of AirAsia X Bhd., said the issue at the group isn’t as bad as the other airlines, and having its own academy “helps keep the flow of talent we need.” Representatives for VietJet, Lion Air and IndiGo didn’t immediately respond to requests for comments.

Vietnam Airlines Considers Buying Up to 100 Boeing 737 Max Jets

In the meantime, their fleets have been expanding rapidly. For instance, IndiGo, operated by India’s InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., is likely to add at least 40 more aircraft in the year ending March 31, 2020, after inducting about 62 in the current year, according to CAPA. The airline, which also operates smaller ATR aircraft on regional routes, has 430 Airbus A320-family jets on order, on top of a previous deal to buy 100 narrow-body jets. AirAsia has 375 on order for single-aisle planes, while VietJet has 216, according to the websites of Airbus SE and Boeing.

One possible solution to ease the crunch is to have one pilot on short-haul flights instead of two, although pilot unions may oppose any such move, said Harbison.

“If you can have driverless cars, you can have airplanes that have only one pilot,” he said. “It’s a matter of shutting down an industry or seriously constraining growth.”

TM’s FY18 core PATAMI of RM632m (-53% YoY) was a disappointment due to higher-than-expected D&A and effective tax rate. However, this beat consensus estimate. UniFi’s net adds showed resilience but the drastic QoQ drop of 5% in ARPU is alarming in tandem with the industry-wide price cut. Attrition in Broadband continued to outweigh UniFi’s acquisitions although ARPU was stable. FY19 guidance signals greater emphasis in cost rationalization to at least keep profitability flat. We maintain HOLD call with higher DCF-derived TP of RM2.89.

This year the telecoms industry will begin the transition to new fifth-generation cellular networks – known as 5G – which is expected to one day help run everything from self-driving cars to robot surgeons.

The successor to the current 4G network technology introduced commercially in 2009 promises nearly instantaneous transfers of huge amounts of data that will likely bring major changes to an array of consumer and health products.

But it will take time for the network to be extensive enough to respond the high expectations it has raised.

Not noticeably faster at first

The first 5G compatible phones will become available in the middle of this year, but consumers will not initially notice vastly faster speeds because 5G coverage will be limited to certain cities or neighbourhoods at first.

Analysts predict it will be at least a couple of years before the network's reach will be extensive enough to let you use your 5G phone without relying on current wireless standards most of the time.

The next generation phones will be able to switch seamlessly between 4G and 5G networks for more stable service.

The first advantages of 5G will be enjoyed by telecoms operators, who will be able to offer fixed high-speed Internet in countries or regions where deploying fibre is expensive.

At a later stage, 5G will be able to underpin services such as augmented reality, which would allow people for example to point a smartphone camera at a football game and see superimposed player statistics.

Connect everything

While previous cellular networks focused on mobile phones, 5G promotors say its greater transmission speed and total bandwidth will allow a ballooning number of objects such as traffic lights, crop equipment, refrigerators and other household appliances to send and receive data.

One of the biggest innovations that 5G is expected to enable are self-driving cars, because it can virtually eliminate latency – the time it takes to get a response to information sent over the network.

But self-driving cars will need 5G networks to cover large areas and mobile communications industry body GSMA, which represents 800 operators worldwide, estimates 5G will account for just 15% of total global mobile connections in 2025.

Lower latency could also help revolutionise multiplayer mobile gaming, factory robots, telemedicine and other tasks demanding a quick response – all areas where today's 4G networks struggle or fail.

Industry impatient

Industry in particular is looking forward to 5G to reinvent manufacturing and allow it to monitor all sorts of processes.

While augmented reality and robotics are already becoming a part of everyday life in many industries, 5G has the potential to enable newer, faster production methods.

For example, by using wearable technology such as augmented reality glasses in the assembly line, workers will have more information at their fingertips, potentially resulting in higher productivity.

Specialists talk of "Industry X.0", an ongoing industrial revolution as businesses embrace and profit from constant technological change.

But governments will first need to harmonise standards for the award of so-called 5G millimetre-wave spectrum, which will carry the vast data flows needed to power connected robots and other industrial uses for the technology.

im not a accounting guy
but i find many company reported finance result very strange.

1. lately many company report bad results, profit drop by half or from profit to loss or from loss to more loses.
I wonder if many take advantage of poor sentinment to pile up their qtrly loses and pocket the money along the way?

2. many company report like this
  revenue        50m
  cost of sale    20m
gross profit      30m

suddenly
opperatio cost  35m
net profit          -5m
i wonder if the boss tell the account dept to put alot of expenses in the operation cost and pocket the money?

in fact 99% of the plc will show this type of number..revenue good, cost half of revenue...and operation cost wipe out all the money due to shareholders.

in fact this type of result is year in year out for past 20 years

think about , if you do business, revenue 1 rgt, cost invovled, more than 1 rgt, why continue for 5 years ,10 years 15 years?

there must be some rasuah money to be made ..operation cost is a mini 1mdb in many company, could it be so?

well not to worry... no hurry as interest will still be paid to UOB
Prtasco will do right issue , sometimes this year or next year, to pair down on borrowing. Yes that is the nice word to use.
Actually the money has be siphon off , now is to con shareholders to pay UOB loan

DUBAI: Saudi Arabia plans to cut its crude oil exports in April to below 7 million barrels per day (bpd), while keeping its output "well below" 10 million bpd, a Saudi official said on Monday, as the kingdom seeks to drain a supply glut and support oil prices.

State-owned Saudi Aramco's oil allocations for April are 635,000 bpd below customers' nominations -- requests made by refiners and clients for Saudi crude, the Saudi official said.

\"Despite very strong demand from international waterborne customers at more than 7.6 million bpd, customers were allocated less than 7 million bpd,\" the official said.

March's oil exports will also be below 7 million bpd, the official said.

The April allocations by Aramco show \"a deep cut of 635,000 bpd from customer requests for its crude oil,\" he added.

\"This will keep production well below 10 million bpd in April,\" the official said, adding that this is also below the 10.311 million bpd that the kingdom has agreed as its production target under an OPEC-led supply cut agreement.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other producers such as Russia, colloquially known as OPEC+, agreed in December to reduce supply by 1.2 million bpd from Jan. 1 for six months.

\"Saudi Arabia is demonstrating extraordinary commitment to accelerating market rebalancing,\" the Saudi official said, adding that the kingdom expects all other OPEC+ countries to show similar levels of contributions and high conformity.

Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said on Sunday that March oil production was 9.8 million bpd and that the country, OPEC's biggest producer, plans to keep its April output at the same level.

Saudi Arabia's oil production in February fell to 10.136 million bpd, a Saudi industry source told Reuters on Friday, down from 10.24 million bpd in January. - Reuters
