ASW 2020 declares 6.30 sen dividend
Bernama | August 26, 2016
PNB Chairman Abdul Wahid Omar said although the dividend was a decline of 0.10 sen a unit from the 6.40 sen declared last year, it was a commendable performance considering the volatility surrounding the local market this year.
Unit-ASW-2020-umum-dividen-6.30-senKUALA LUMPUR: Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), today announced a 6.30 sen dividend for a unit of the Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 (ASW 2020) for the financial year ending Aug 31, 2016.
The dividend was a decline of 0.10 sen a unit from the 6.40 sen declared last year.
Speaking at his maiden press conference as PNB chairman, Wahid said the income distribution this year would involve a total payment of RM1.146 billion and benefit 878,000 unit holders, who currently hold 18.193 billion units of ASW 2020.
He said the 6.30 sen dividend was commendable considering volatility surrounding the local market this year, which had been affecting the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI’s (FBM KLCI) performance.
Up until Aug 24, ASW 2020 had recorded a gross income of RM1.394 billion.

From this amount, profit from the sale of shares contributed RM735.83 million or 52.8 per cent, whole dividend yield income from investee companies contributed RM451.7 million or 32.4 per cent.
The remaining RM206.84 million or 14.8 per cent was derived from short-term instruments and other income.
The income distribution would be reinvested automatically in the form of units, which would be credited to the unit holders’ accounts on Sept 1.
All transactions for ASW 2020 have been suspended from yesterday until Aug 31 to facilitate the computation of income distribution.
All unit holders can update their accounts at any ASNB branches or agents nationwide beginning Sept 1.

ASW 2020 dividend set at 6.30 sen
Monday, April 3rd, 2017   at , Business | Corporate Malaysia

AMANAH Saham Nasional Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), last Friday announced a 6.30 sen dividend for each unit of the Amanah Saham Wawasan (ASW) 2020 for the year ending Aug 31, 2016.

The dividend was 0.10 sen lower than the 6.40 sen declared last year, PNB chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said at the announcement of the dividend in Kuala Lumpur.

The dividend was also the lowest since 2009, where the 20-year old ASW unitholders received income distribution of 6.30 sen.

Speaking at his first media conference as PNB chairman, Abdul Wahid said the rate for income distribution was reasonable given the stock market downturn, which also have to compete with other investment instruments of similar features and risk profile.

The income distribution this year involves a payout of RM1.39 billion, based on the average minimum equity held for the ASW’s financial year.

“The payment is expected to benefit more than 878,000 unitholders who subscribed to 18.19 billion ASW units,” Abdul Wahid, who succeeded Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid in early August, said.

He said the income distribution will be credited to the unitholders’ accounts on Sept 1. For investors who participate in the ASW through the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the income will be cre-dited directly into their EPF accounts through the Members’ Investment Scheme.

“Up to Aug 24, 2016, ASW 2020’s gross income stood at RM1.39 billion. Profit from the sale of shares contributed RM735.83 million or 52.8% of the gross income.

“Dividend income from investee companies contributed RM451.7 million or 32.4%, and the remaining RM206.84 million or 14.8% was from short-term instruments and other income,” he said.

PNB president and group CEO Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, who was also present at the announcement, said PNB is focused on its current product offerings and will continue to work hard to generate optimum returns.

“PNB has no immediate plans to launch additional fixed-price unit trusts,” Hamad Kama Piah said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Wahid commented that the rising petroleum prices towards US$50 (RM202) per barrel is good for Malaysia, which is a net oil exporter. At 2:50pm last Friday, Brent crude futures at the London InterContinental Exchange traded at around US$49.41 per barrel.

For the past three months, palm oil prices on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange have been trading rangebound between RM2,500 per tonne and RM2,800 per tonne.

Abdul Wahid hopes palm oil prices would trade firmly above RM2,500 per tonne to more reasonable levels.

“Higher palm oil prices are good for planters, who will reap better profits, and yield higher dividends for unit trust holders,” he explained.
