What are all these ?
« on: April 11, 2016, 11:42:15 AM »
Hi guys, my name is Niklaus, from Klang Selangor.

Recently I've encountered a friend & also my business + life mentor, have been discussing about things and life in upcoming years to do, resulted to be stock market.

And he gave me some homework to do which I am facing some issues now, very much appreciated if any one could tell me what are these, or have any time to "Yumcha" around here :

- What is Bursa Malaysia / KLSE ?
- Study CANDLE stick chart only, what is Candle Stick Chart ?
- He asks me not to study fundamental analysis, only study technical analysis, and what are the things in technical analysis should do, how do technical analysis looks like ?
- What is OPM Plan ?

Thank you in advance for any kind replies... Very Much Appreciated..

Hi Nick,

I could try answer some of your question.

1. KLSE is a place where companies list their company to raise money to fund their operation. For some, it is a large gambling area. For others who did homework, it is a place to grow their income through both FA & TA.

2. Candlestick is a term used to explain one of the type of chart in technical analysis (TA). Bar chart patterns are popularly used to predict the incoming trending to help investors make decision whether to buy/sell at certain price.

3. Both FA & TA are equally important in my view. I used to apply FA in stock selection. Using TA to time entry & take profit and at times to cut loss.

4. Not sure if you are referring to "Other People's Money" in term of OPM.
When the time comes, all investment knowledges should be passed to the younger generations for further enhancement.

Thx & Rgds;
Lim

How to read a candlestick chart ? and how does a candlestick chart function in TA ?
So OPM "Other People's Money" Plan is something like searching for investors to invest in us and use their money to take profit from the % of gains ?

Nick,

TA knowledge could not be learnt simply by asking questions like this. :) You needed to buy books on TA or attend courses. There are few good candlestick books you can pick up from local bookstores.

There is one written by local author:

Title: The power of Japanese candlestick
Author: Fred KH Tam

Books on TA are quite pricey but worth an investment. Alternatively, you could also attend courses by chartnexus or Masteryasia on share market investment.

You are right on OPM.

Share price has strong correlation with the company performance. In general when most companies earn more money = share price will up, when company earn less money share price will drop.  :handshake: Some people try to forecast the share prices by forcasting the company profit in the near future. Among the factors that can influence a company profit are the raw material prices, labour cost, exchange rate etc.

Last year export counters so hot, most export counters report good profit, their share prices up like about 100% within 1 year. This year ringgit seems to strengthen slowly, people has bearish opinion on export counters, that's why even though they are reporting good and growing profit, their share prices stop going up at the moment.

I think if you just depend on candle stick alone, you will miss a lot.

KESM compared to the share price a year ago, up about +60%, to me considered fly lor

To me I will consider to buy if this company is selling at lower than its historical low PE (4.5) and historical high dividend yield (higher than 2.5%), give margin of safety 20%, maybe PE around 4 or DY 3-4% like that... But if I really really interested and want to buy, I will check further whether this company can maintain the growth in the next 2 years or not
